Your Questions About Baby Care

Lisa asks…

Question about cribs, can anyone help me with this?

Hey, I am 31/32 weeks and My hubby and I are buying a crib for our baby this week from walmart, off the website, and I am unsure what crib to get.

If any of you have bought one from there can you recommend one for me that is safe and attractive and convenient? We dont have a ton of money to spend, about 200 is our limit, so we cant afford the most expensive. thank you!

Would without hesitation if you could find one for under 300 dollars at a specialty store. And im sure a walmart one new would be much better than something from a yard sale or thrift store like alot of ppl do.

The Expert answers:

We got our crib at Babies R Us and it was $229.00 and super sturdy. It goes from a crib, to toddler bed, to a twin bed, so even better! Also Babies R Us has 20% coupons that you can use on furniture. If you don’t have a Babies R Us then try Target. And there’s nothing wrong with Walmart cribs, if they weren’t safe for babies then they wouldn’t be for sale. Just because you don’t get your crib at a specialty shop doesn’t mean anything and when your kids biting the side of it when they’re teething at least you won’t have to worry about the money you spent. As long as its not a drop side crib and one solid piece I would think you’d be okay. If your ever in doubt they have a recall website. Good luck with your search and pregnancy!

Ruth asks…

returning a crib to walmart no receipt?

So I bought a crib about 3 months ago, it’s still in the box but my husband and I got a crib from a relative so now we no longer need the crib… I no longer have the receipt will walmart give me store credit for it? I’d love to be able to purchase the rest of the baby items I need with the credit.

The Expert answers:

More than likely. Wal-mart will probably take something back that you bought from Target.

Susan asks…

Is it okay to order baby gear such as crib set from Amazon.com?

My husband and I are currently shopping for baby gear. I am due end of this summer. We wanted to buy a crib and have decided on Graco sarah 4-in-1 convertible crib. Some of my friends took the same model from Walmart but currently the lowest price seems to be available at amazon.

My question is – If it is okay to order baby gear online? If its a branded item, will it arrive in good shape and safe? or do u recommend I pay more and take it from a store?

Thanks!

The Expert answers:

It’s a great way to order anything! I started out ordering books, then kitchen gadgets and all kinds of stuff. I was so happy with Amazon, that I included it on my baby shower website … I even have a cribs section if you want to check it out 🙂 … Http://astore.amazon.com/uniqbabygiftc-20?_encoding=UTF8&node=66 … (use the search box to find the style you’re looking for)

I have bought ‘used’ items before (usually books), but even the new items are generally less expensive than anywhere else!

Jenny asks…

A Walmart associate told me that drop down cribs have been on recall. Has anyone heard this?

I have a Storkcraft – Rochester Stages 3-in-1 Crib
Was told that my crib has been on recall it was a baby shower gift Purchased on 2/8/2008
i found a page http://answers.walmart.com/answers/1336/product/3425251/questions.htm?sort=recentq
i do not need another crib. if it is a recall can i take back to walmart and get a refund??

The Expert answers:

Yes, all drop down cribs are recalled because they’re “dangerous.” I grew up with one and so did my mom and basically everyone I know also did. And I even have a drop down crib for my son. I never fell out of my crib and no one I knew fell out of theirs and were injured. But they do have parts for free on the internet to put on the crib to prevent it from going down if you’re worried about the baby’s safety….
