Your Questions About Baby Care

Joseph asks…

Does anyone know the kind of Baby Cribs shown in the episodes of 16 and pregnant?

I really like the crib I saw in the second episode with the cheerleader girl named Farrah, but have no idea what kind it is! Does anyone know which crib that is or where she might have gotten it? What about the crib in the first episode with Maci?! they looked almost similar.

The Expert answers:

They look like walmart cribs with different kinds of blankets to make it look better

Robert asks…

what is the list for dangerous baby cribs?

on NBC the other night they told of Baby Cribs that the side rails were attached wrong & could hurt the babies. I need the list.

The Expert answers:

Here is a link to the US Consumer Product Safety Commision website where all the recalls are posted. This particular link takes you to the page you requested:

FYI: The cribs were recalled not because they were improperly assembled, but because some parents were improperly assembling them. This improper assembly by the parents (the cribs were not assembled at the time of purchase) caused 2 or 3 infant deaths.

The recalled Simplicity crib models include: Aspen 3 in 1, Aspen 4 in 1, Nursery-in-a-Box, Crib N Changer Combo, Chelsea and Pooh 4 in 1. The recall also involves the following Simplicity cribs that used the Graco logo: Aspen 3 in 1, Ultra 3 in 1, Ultra 4 in1, Ultra 5 in 1, Whitney and the Trio.

The recalled cribs have one of the following model numbers, which can be found on the envelope attached to the mattress support and on the label attached to the headboard: 4600, 4605, 4705, 5000, 8000, 8324, 8800, 8740, 8910, 8994, 8050, 8750, 8760, and 8996.

The cribs, which were made in China, were sold in department stores, children’s stores and mass merchandisers nationwide from January 1998 through May 2007 for between $100 and $300.

As an immediate precaution, you should check to see if the drop-side is installed right side up. To do this, check to see that the slightly rounded rail with the decorative groove is installed at the top and the plain rail is on the bottom. Next, make sure the drop-side is securely attached to the tracks in all four corners.

Ken asks…

Are the Storkcraft baby cribs from Walmart the exact same as the Storkcraft cribs from Sears?

Does anyone know if I order a crib at Walmart that has the same crib name as a crib at Sears, if it is the exact same product? For example, Walmart sells the ‘Storkcraft Deborah Stages Crib’ for $229.99 but Sears sells it for $379.99. Sears doesn’t provide item #’s online or in the catalogue so I can’t compare. I’m worried that if I purchase the crib at Walmart, that it’s not the same quality as the one from Sears.

The Expert answers:

Yes they are the exact same!! I know this is days later but i was in walmart the other day and there is a RECALL on storkcraft cribs so be careful

Mandy asks…

Where can you find baby cribs that aren’t made in China?

One of my friends is pregnant and is looking for a crib not made in China. I wanted to buy the crib for her but I can’t find one anywhere. Do you all have any suggestions as to where I can find one?

The Expert answers:

I’m partial to Amish made things ( I own an Amish furniture store), but you may look at an Amish furniture store..everything we have in our store is made in Indiana, Illinois, and Ohio..NOT china! And that is awesome we have sold a lot of Amish toys, because they are American made..I have an Amish crib for my youngest step son (well..I did he’s 4 now so he’s a little big for it now!!, but that would be my recommendation it may be a little more expensive, but at least you’d be sure that your baby is safe! Good luck!! And have a happy new year!

Ruth asks…

Does anyone know what the new guidelines set by the government for baby cribs are?

The guidelines are suppose to be in affect yesterday.

The Expert answers:

Cribs are no longer allowed to have the drop sides, because it may drop down by itself and babies can get stuck and killed.
