Your Questions About Baby Care

Betty asks…

I have twin girls that are 11 months old and i pretty much take care of them my self?

I was wondering if anyone has any coupons for free baby products such as diapers or wipes, of any coupons for a good amount off of baby products. Please let me know if you do.Thanks

The Expert answers:

Hello and Congrats!

I too have twin girls. My twins just turned a year old on the 5th.

I used lots of coupons and got free formulas from various baby companies.

If you have time, I would sign up at the following companies who will send you free samples of their formulas and diapers. I have never received free butt wipes, but you can get coupons.

Hope these websites help you….. 🙂

The Expert answers:

Coupons come in your Sunday newspaper. Clip the ones you want. What I do is keep them in an envelope sorted by either food or supplies. When you make your grocery list, put a star by the items you have a coupon for so you can put them in your wallet so you remember to use them. Just hand them to the cashier after they’ve scanned your things.

Be sure that what you’re buying matches the coupon, I’ve been told not to put the coupons on the conveyor belt since they could jam it up, so just hand them to the cashier. They scan them and retotal your bill. Also, coupons in the paper don’t come on Sunday if it’s a holiday weekend. And watch the expiration dates.

Now some stores have club cards, like Safeway, where you can sign up the card online to shortcutsavings.com, and load e-coupons on your card. No clipping involved! When your card scans it uses the e-coupon. And I’ve seen a lot of baby items on their site. But that’s if you have a Safeway, or other affililate store in your area for your favorite store.

You can just search up the coupons on google, you can look for coupons for the brands that you usually by and print them off (be sure to check the expiry date), or check at your local stores and newspapers. There is one site, i’ll post the link when i find it, that you check on the coupons that you want and you get them in the mail a week or two later. Coupons are usually always free, just take them with you when you go shopping, and if you pick up the product that you have a coupon on for, then you give that coupon to the cashier when you pays for everything. With some coupons you’ll save a little bit of the regular price, maybe up to a dollar or two, or sometimes you can find coupons where you can get that product completely free. However with certain coupons you can only use one at a time, or have to pick up 2 or 3 products to save, so it doesn’t always balance out. I love coupons, i don’t use them often, but i do when i can get them, we have saved a lot by using coupons for free cat litter and bags of cat food. You can even get coupons for free baby formula.

Linda asks…

How do I get my husband to understand we need a larger grocery budget?

I am a stay at home mom with 5 children, one in diapers and eating infant formula and baby food.

My husband thinks that $200-$300 per month is more than enough to supply the entire family with food, baby items, clothes, health & beauty items, household cleaners & other items.

I have showed him statistics on what average households spend, I have showed him grocery receipts even with my coupons, nothing works. I really need a specific budget and to know a certain time each month when I will get the money so that I can plan on what to spend depending on sale ads.

Right now I have to beg him for money when we run out of things, and then I’m just buying things when they are not even on sale because I have to have them right away.

He believes that the man is the head of the household, and a woman should not have any say in the finances. I understand that I don’t work, and I have even asked to get a night job, but he wants me here to take care of the kids.

Any help??

The Expert answers:

Yes Wilma, take that club that your husband Fred is still carrying, and whack him one over the head with it. He’s got to be still living in the stone ages if he believes that the man is the head of the household and the woman should not have any say in the finances. And he’s got to be in fantasy land if he thinks that $200-300 per month will feed a family of 7.

I hate to offer this, considering things have not always been rosy with my wife and I, but I think you and hubby need counseling to get him to realize that what he is putting you through is not right. And if the counseling doesn’t work, well, I have no idea how much alimony and child support would be for him to pay, but I’m sure it would be lot more than $200-300 per month.

Oh, by the way, HOW CAN YOU SAY YOU DON’T WORK??? You stay at home and take care of 5 kids, if that’s not work I don’t know what really is.

I wish you the best of luck, and would like to know how you make out with things.

Maria asks…

What size diapers to buy for twin baby shower?

I’m invited to a baby shower for twin boys. The mother does not have a registry. I bought a pack of size 1 Huggies and Huggies natural care wipe refills (I got a good deal with the store special and coupons I used). I want to get one more pack of diapers and wipe refills since I have more coupons for them. My question is, what size diapers should I get? I already got a size 1 and I’m not sure if I should get newborn since many people might get that size for them. Would a pack of size 2 be okay? any feedback would help.

The Expert answers:

I would say size 2 or 3. Everyone seems to buy size 1. This will give her a little break when her twins go into a bigger size.
