Richard asks…
What is a canker sore and how do you alleviate the pain?
The Expert answers:
Canker sores, also known as aphthous stomatitis, are among the most common causes of painful sores in the mouth.
From 20%-40% of the U.S. Population have them at some point in their lives.
The peak incidence occurs among people in adolescence and young adulthood. They become less frequent as we get older.
They are not contagious.
Canker sores are not the same thing as cold sores. Cold sores (“fever blisters”) occur on the outer lip, whereas canker sores are found inside the mouth
Canker Sore Treatment
Self-Care at Home
Try rinsing your mouth with a solution of ½ teaspoon salt dissolved in 8 ounces of water.
Another mixture that may be helpful consists of 1-2 tablespoons of Maalox mixed with ½ tablespoon of liquid diphenhydramine (Benadryl). Swish a teaspoonful in your mouth and spit it out. This can be done four times a day.
A number of medications are available over the counter, for example, calamine (Calamox) lotion.
Liquids or ointments with a numbing ingredient such as benzocaine (Anbesol, Oragel, Orabase, Zilactin-B, Tanac) help relieve the discomfort of canker sores.
Although there is no cure for canker sores, treatment can decrease symptoms, reduce the likelihood that they will return, and prolong periods of remission.

What’s the difference between the illuminati, freemasons and satanists?
The Expert answers:
The Illuminati don’t exist (and haven’t existed for 226 years). The Illuminati weren’t a religion, and there was no devil worshipin’. Their primary purpose was the overthrow of European monarchies.
Freemasonry is a fraternity. No worshiping involved.
Satanism is a religion. Probably some worshiping going on there.
Jay-Z, Rihanna and Kanye are musicians. They’re not flashing any “illuminati sign” (there ISN’T such a sign).
NOTES:
– Freemasons didn’t original from the twelve tribes of Israel, nor is there any Freemason god. It’s a FRATERNITY, not a RELIGION. Duh.

What is the difference between Northern humanism and Italian humanism during the Renaissance?
The Expert answers:
Oh boy Jen, this is a toughy. I think you need to do your own research. Off the top of my (pointy) head I would make a couple of reversals to your premeses.
Humanism (of this era speaking philosophically) actually originated from a great struggle in the north (Martin Luther’s travails), earlier Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales. And gradually became accepted in Italy. So i submit there is no difference in the humanism you speak of, merely that the Italian leaders for example Sixtus V (in the church, although sympathetic) and the Medici family (in the private sector) were more ‘cautious’ of accepting humanism.
In terms of Renaissance Art (which I used to know something about 25 years ago) the word “humanism” is inapplicable.
You are right! The great Italian Renaissance artists, stretching back to the 13thc. Work of Giotto to that of my favorite Florentine masters was the first to depict REALISM, that is, representing gods and people in a realistic manner. But this is not “humanism” because the subject matter rarely strayed from the conventional liturgy.
Oh girl, I’m rambling, sorry. Check the Northern Renaissance works of guys like Roger Van der Weyden, Jan Van Eyck, and yikes! Hieronymus Bosch compared to the great masters of the Italian Renaissance (for example Michelangelo, Bernini, Raphael et.al.) and I hope you’ll agree its a matter of style, not content.
